Not much out on the horizon – I’ll be playing the Destiny Beta on PS4 as of Thursday, but that’s about it. I’m also looking to finish of The Last of Us, but it’s starting to become a bit of a running joke at this point. I need a gaming vacation.

Whatcha playin’ folks?

After a crazy week (well, so far), I got a chance to unwind with the Destiny beta last night. Capture a full broadcast of the play session with me, matt and a buddy of ours – check out a quick highlight of the public event we experienced here!

The game is a ton of fun – It feels like a mix between Borderlands, Halo, and maybe Guild Wars? It plays really well, looks fantastic for the most part, and seems to have a ton of depth with lots of character customization and game modes. I’m looking forward to playing more! The beta runs from the 17th to the 27th on PS4 and PS3, and from the 23rd to the 27th on Xbox One and 360. If you want in, you’ll have to preorder the game, or know someone else who did: Each preorder gets you three beta codes, one for you and then two to give away! Brilliant marketing.

Ricky finish The Last of Us? Surely upon my chain you do yank!

I’ve been desperately playing any AC4: Black Flag when I get a chance. There isn’t really much that is gripping me in terms of story — but at this point… I don’t really think that matters. There is SO much to do in this game. I was quite terrible at the ship to ship combat for a while but now that I understand the gaming mechanics it has quickly become my favorite part of the game. Instead of pressing buttons to perform certain actions, your view (i.e. looking at the front v. the side) changes the type of shot you can have. There is something about going into naval combat to take a huge amount of money from a convoy that is surrounded by other ships that is just unavailable in any other game. I would almost liken the experience to my first bank heist in GTA V. It’s new and fun and there are many ways to achieve the goal and there is high tension and stress into accomplishing the capture. I cannot tell you how many times I have stalked a convoy, wore down the ships and got aboard to die from a couple of soldiers or falling off the top of the ship’s flag platform.

I’m OCD when it comes to upgrading which is no surprise on why this game has hooked me. You can upgrade multiple parts of your ship, build all the facilities for your crew, chase shanties that your men sing while you’re sailing the high seas, upgrade your crafting which allows you to hold more pistols — but that comes from hunting! Of course there is story in there you just need to find little tidbits that are laying around… There is way way too much (i didn’t even mention treasure hunting) that reminded me of Red Dead Redemption and is similar in this game except you are a pirate. Arrr.

Besides that i’ve been playing Pocket Stables on Android — AND YES — it’s a Kairosoft game. It’s awesome. I totally didn’t understand horse racing until I played this game. Now I understand 1% more. Life is fascinating if you give it a chance.

[EDIT] oh and there’s this! (I haven’t seen it but maybe you have since it’s a month old)
